Current Track News Mon- 7/26 - OK, it's summer time and not a whole lot is going on. The latest is the World Junior meet where our new, incoming Trojans competed last week. Also from the usctrojan.com web site: Judith Onyepunuka named a PAC-10 post-graduate scholarship winner; Shalina Clarke nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year; and we had athletes win 5 medals at the NACAC U23 championships. This is just to keep things updated for now. Next up, the golf tournament. Dust off those sticks and come out and play some golf for the team. It's a casual, best-ball format that anyone can play. Th-7/1 - No sooner than I say it and it's here. Track Summer Newsletter. Th-7/1 - Not too much to report right now. We had a number of athletes, both past & present, compete at the National meet last week. Happening right now is the USA Youth meet. And we have 3 athletes to compete in the USA Under 23 meet next week in Florida. The Summer newsletter will be in the mail soon, if you're not on the mailing list I can email it to you (the emailing list). Hopefully you've noticed that I've added some drop-down menus under the heading. Just trying to make this info a little easier to get at. Sat-6/12 - It was a bittersweet kind of NCAA meet this year. USC men take 5th place, the women however failed to score any points. That's the first time that's ever happened. Once Ron and the team get home I'll get some more follow-up on the meet. Results. Recap. Tue-6/8 - As things start to heat up for tomorrow's final meet, it was posted today that USC has 28 athletes on the PAC-10 All-Academic team. Pretty cool. Mon-6/7 - It's NCAA Finals week. Good luck to the teams. Recap. Heat sheets: Men | Women. Sat-6/5 - Word has trickled in that former USC track star Jim Lea has passed away. Jim was a 440 runner in '52, '53', & '54. A 3-time All-American, Jim was NCAA Champion in the 440 in '53 & '54. In 1956 he set a world record with a time of 45.8 at the Modesto Relays. Jim died this past March after a long battle with heart disease. |
